Modifications
Short Shifter
Shorter throws and a tighter, more mechanical feel through the gate. The single best dollar-for-smile upgrade on a 986.
Circuit Werks Titanium Cat-Back
Lighter than the factory muffler and lets the flat-six actually sing. You heard it before you saw it.
Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit
Bilstein dampers paired with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Drops the car roughly 25 mm (about 1 in) front and rear for a lower stance and flatter cornering.
Drilled & Slotted Rotors + Ceramic Pads
Better heat management and consistent bite, with low dust and quiet street manners.
IMS bearing: original. No plans to change that.
The preventive maintenance plan: fresh oil every 4,000 miles, and driving it. 18,000 miles in 18 months and counting.
My Story
This is the car I learned to drive stick in, and the one that got me wrenching on my own. Oil changes, brakes, suspension, exhaust, short shifter: I've done it all myself, and I know this car better than any I've owned. I picked it up for $9k with 62k miles and have added 18k since, almost all of it on weekends with the top down going everywhere and anywhere.
The Cayman I Almost Bought
I almost bought a 987.1 Cayman from a dealer in Los Angeles for $30k (including shipping) but my dad advised spending that kind of money on a car that I don’t know how to drive yet. Instead, he thought it’d be better to learn on a beater and only then I should spend on a proper car.
This car came up on Craigslist from a guy up in Sacramento. After a few phone calls, we agreed on the price and to meetup halfway in Stockton. As soon as we pulled up at the meetup spot, I saw the car parked with the top down and I immediately fell in love with the car. It literally was love at first sight.
